Gay and Lesbian Studies

Gay and Lesbian Studies is by innateness cross-disciplinary, covering a wide range of intellectual bases: literature, history, religion, psychology, sociology, philosophy, anthropology, medicine, law, nice arts, and others. Resources in this subject area may be found in nearly every division of the Explore Libraries. This manual offers multiple trajectories into this richly varied field.

A

Abro (sexual and romantic)

A pos used to detail people who hold a fluid sexual and/or romantic orientation which changes over time, or the course of their life. They may use different terms to describe themselves over time.

Ace

An umbrella term used specifically to describe a lack of, varying, or occasional experiences of sexual attraction. This encompasses asexual people as skillfully as those who identify as demisexual and grey-sexual. Ace people who exposure romantic attraction or occasional sexual attraction might also employ terms such as gay, bi, sapphic, straight and gender non-conforming in conjunction with asexual to outline the direction of their romantic or sexual attraction.

Ace and aro/ace and aro spectrum

Umbrella terms used to describe the wide group of people who exposure a lack of, varying, or occasional experiences of intimate and/or sexual attraction, including a lack of attraction. People who identify under these umbrella terms may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms, including, but not limited to, asexual, ace, aromantic, aro, demi, grey, and abro. The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is dedicated to eliminating hate violence, sexual assault, stalking, and domestic force in lesbian, gay, multi-attracted , transgender, queer, and HIV-affected communities through counseling, activism, organizing, and public training. AVP provides free and confidential assistance to female homosexual, gay, bisexual, transgender, gay, and HIV-affected (LGBTQH) people from all five boroughs of New York Metropolis. The organization maintains a 24-hour, Spanish/English bilingual hotline staffed by professional counselors and trained volunteers providing professional and peer help counseling, as well as advocacy with police, courts, and social service agencies.

April 26 is Lesbian Visibility Evening. In its honor, we’re posting an article about the experiences of ace and aro people who identify as lesbians.
