Uninsured Young Black Lgbtq+ & Bi Men See Delays in Getting PrEP
After adolescent Black men who have sex with men (MSM) collect a prescription for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), those who are uninsured and rely on Gilead Sciences’ payment assistance program to pay for PrEP experience a median delay of an additional 16 days before taking their first dose compared with those who have insurance.
So found a brand-new study of PrEP uptake among fresh Black MSM in Atlanta in which investigators were particularly hands-on in helping ensure that their HIV prevention medication was promptly covered. The finding is concerning given that delays in PrEP initiation in a population with a high risk for HIV—young Black MSM in Atlanta own an extremely tall overall risk—leave individuals vulnerable to acquiring the virus.
Published in the Journal of the International AIDS Society, the investigate was led by David P. Serota, MD, of the department of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
The EleMENt study was a longitudinal cohort study of 298 sexually active HIV-negative Black MSM 18 to 29 years old in Atlanta who were enrol
2 perps beat up teen for skateboard at West Village subway station
Police are looking for a pair of perps who beat up a 17-year-old male child and stole his skateboard and other belongings in broad daylight at a West Village subway station on Saturday.
NYPD officials said the young victim was on the West 4 Street subway station mezzanine at 11:10 a.m. on April 6 when the two suspects approached him with an offer, saying, “I’ll let you in for a dollar,” as they held open the emergency gate for the victim to enter.
The victim obliged and walked through the open gate, police said, which is when the situation turned vicious.
Law enforcement sources said the suspects began punching the victim multiple times in the brain, injuring his right ear. When the rain of blows ended, the perps ran off with the victim’s skateboard and necklace before cops from Transit District 2 arrived, fleeing to parts unknown.
EMS brought the victim to Lenox Health Greenwich Village Hospital in reliable condition.
Police released video footage of the suspects. The first individual is described as a male approximately 5 feet, 8 inches high with a gloomy complexion, curly hair and medium create. He was last seen

Once inside the residence, a block east of Francis Lewis Park, the burglars allegedly removed $25,000 in cash and a bracelet, police said Thursday.
The perpetrators ran from the house and piled into a gray sedan that sped off in an unknown direction. There were no injuries reported.
The home was targeted again on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 5. A surveillance camera captured another group of childish swarming onto the porch of the same 147th Street home at around 1 a.m. and smashing through a front window with a hammer. Once inside, one of the perps used the hammer to allegedly strike a 37-year-old man who confronted them while another assailant pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the back. The burglars allegedly stole three gold rings and other jewelry and cl
An often-told family tale counters the Coast Guard’s 1930s report on a chicken house liquor stash
By Steve and Donna Bunting
From the April 2019 issue
In November 2017, Delaware Beach Life published an article about Prohibition headlined “Bootleggers on the Beach,” which mentioned the Coast Guard discovering “more than 200 sacks of illegal liquor in a chicken property in Bethany.”
According to that account, the booze was confiscated but the perps got away. As we read the story, we thought back to a family story, one we had heard many times, and smiled. What we knew happened that daytime in 1932 is somewhat unlike from the official record — and most certainly our family story was laced with far more colorful details. We figured it was time to proper the published account.
The Beach Life story cited as its source Eric Mills’ book “Chesapeake Rumrunners of the Roaring Twenties,” which in turn cites U.S. Coast Guard records, specifically “RG 26, Entry 283A, Box 1244.” If history tells us anything, it’s that (1) official reports often don’t tell the whole story and (2) official reports often portray the reporter in a favorable manner.
