Can gay men give blood?
Gay and bisexual men are not automatically prevented from giving blood.
Men who hold sex with men and who have had the equal partner for 3 months or more and meet our other eligibility criteria are able to give blood.
Anyone who has had anal sex with a fresh partner or multiple partners in the last three months, regardless of their gender or their partner’s gender, must wait 3 months before donating.
We judge your eligibility to offer blood based solely on your own individual experiences, making the process fairer for everyone.
If you are taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) you will be unable to give blood. If you stop taking PrEP or PEP, you will need to wait 3 months before you can give blood.
We appreciate that any deferral is disappointing if you want to save lives by giving blood.
If you have previously been unable to provide blood because of the guidelines and would favor to donate, please contact us on 0300 123 23 23. One of our team can review the new guidelines with you and, if eligible, book your next appointment.
Why is there a 3-month wait after sex?

OCD, as we know, is largely about experiencing harsh and unrelenting question. It can produce you to disbelieve even the most basic things about yourself – even your sexual orientation. A 1998 investigate published in the Journal of Sex Research found that among a community of 171 college students, 84% reported the occurrence of sexual intrusive thoughts (Byers, et al. 1998). In decree to have doubts about one’s sexual identity, a sufferer need not ever have had a homo- or heterosexual experience, or any type of sexual experience at all. I have observed this symptom in young children, adolescents, and adults as skillfully. Interestingly Swedo, et al., 1989, launch that approximately 4% of children with OCD experience obsessions concerned with forbidden aggressive or perverse sexual thoughts.
Although doubts about one’s control sexual identity might seem pretty straightforward as a symptom, there are actually a number of variations. The most obvious form is where a sufferer experiences the idea that they might be of a different sexual orientation than they formerly believed. If the su

I’ll shove a cucumber up my ass!
It was a light bulb moment. Newton had his apple. I went with the gourd family.
I was 18, new to New York, and drunk on the D train. Drunker than usual. I had been embarrassed that evening. There was this comedy community at NYU, and I was its sound guy. It was my job to press the play button on a cassette boom box so that, after the punch line of a sketch, R.E.M. or Fine Adolescent Cannibals would kick in. It was 1989.
In rehearsal that darkness, I’d fucked up a cue. I’d played “The Humpty Dance” after a sketch meant to end with “Back in Black.” One of the group members said, “Kevin, you don’t recognize this cue by now?” Then he had started singing, “If you don’t know it by now,” like Harold Melvin, and the whole group chimed in like the Blue Notes: “You will never, ever, ever realize it, ooo-wooo!”
It was silly to be so embarrassed. I was too sensitive. I’d grown up knowing I was gay and not knowing I had ADHD, but always in this tug-of-war between being proud and mortified to be so different. So when the group m

Having unprotected penetrative sex is the most likely way to transfer on a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
Using a condom helps protect against HIV and lowers the peril of getting many other STIs.
If you’re a man having sex with men (MSM), without condoms and with someone new, you should have an STI and HIV try every 3 months, otherwise, it should be at least once a year. This can be done at a sexual health clinic (SHC) or genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic. This is significant, as some STIs do not bring about any symptoms.
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A is a liver infection that's spread by a virus in poo.
Hepatitis A is uncommon in the UK but you can earn it through sex, including oral-anal sex ("rimming") and giving oral sex after anal sex. MSM with multiple partners are particularly at risk. You can also get it through contaminated nourishment and drink.
Symptoms of hepatitis A can emerge up to 8 weeks after sex and include tiredness and feeling sick (nausea).
Hepatitis A is not usually life-threatening and most people make a occupied recovery within a couple of months.
MSM can avoid getting hepatitis A by:
