Clueless is a near-perfect update of Jane Austen's Emma for the new day, or the '90s modern day. Cher (Alicia Silverstone) is the matchless Beverly Hills glam version of Austen's haughty heroine; the high school setting brings Austen's social strata into the modern era, and the revamps to the ending, such as the girls from diverse classes, Emma and Harriet (Britanny Murphy's Tai), remaining friends are great democratic changes.
